Thom Yorke’s The Eraser

Rock Album Release: Thom Yorke - The Eraser
yorke.jpg Thom Yorke is the lead singer and songwriter of the band Radiohead, the English rock band that has been often been praised as one of the most distinct bands of this generation. OK Computer (1997), pushed them to greater attention, and has been acclaimed as a milestone record of the 90’s. With their albums Kid A (2000), and Amnesiac (2001), the band reached their peak global popularity, even as their music (with influences ranging from electronic music to jazz) became less conventional. The band has even had an impact in the contemporary jazz world scene, where musicians like Brad Mehldau and Chris Potter have incorporated Radiohead’s songs into their standard repertoire. Miles did it with “Bye Bye Blackbird”, and Coltrane with “My Favorite Things”. Jazz musicians back then, adapted contemporary pop songs as standard repertoire to improvise on. But after 1965, there is about a 50 years old gap, an absence of “new standards”, which linked jazz to popular audiences. It seems that this concept is now re-emerging.

thomyorke.jpgYorke’s, The Eraser, released in July 2006, is his first solo album. It features nine tracks and was produced by Nigel Godrich (who has also worked with Radiohead). Comparing it to Radiohead’s albums, The Eraser is more electronically oriented. The format is different in that there are no drums and no guitars in the traditional way. As in any other solo album from a famous band lead singer, it is hard not to think about Radiohead when hearing Yorke sing, but the album is a piece in itself and has a life of its own. Some fans found the album an instant classic, but many were puzzled and disappointed by the slow tempos and melancholy electronic tunes, acheter viagra. The Eraser was kept secret until Radiohead hit the road, so nobody would wonder about the band splitting up. – Article by CNP –
