The Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music announces the establishment of an international competition for pianist / composer collaborations.
The goal of the competition is to encourage the composition and performance of new works for solo piano reflecting and continuing the legacy of the distinguished American pianist, Yvar Mikhashoff (1941-1993).
Awards: 1) $3000 (USD) to the composer for the composition of a new work for piano solo of a minimum duration of 12 minutes; 2) $3000 (USD) to the pianist for the performance of the new work.
The competition is limited to applicants, both pianists and composers, born on or after January 1, 1973, with these qualifications: 1) pianists who are composers may not apply to commission themselves; 2) pianists should not apply to commission a work that is already in-progress or has been publicly presented either in part or whole; 3) composers may only appear on one application per cycle; 4) previous awardees of the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust who meet the above qualifications are eligible to apply. Submissions will not be returned.
Deadline: November 1, 2007.
