I have both Finale and Sibelius and I know how to use them well, but I have to say that I’m not very happy with any of the two, although they are probably the better options out there…
I am curious to know about other notation programs so if you read this and know something about it, feel free to respond.
I have a friend that uses Nightingale (http://www.ngale.com), and speaks very highly of it, but the problem with programs like this is that you never know when they are just going to leave you hanging with no support or up to date versions.
I downloaded a trial version of NoteAbility Pro a couple of months ago (http://debussy.music.ubc.ca/NoteAbility/index.html). It looks like you can do pretty complex stuff with it, but I really haven’t tried it yet.
Hey Casey, what notation software do you use?
I’m currently using Finale 2007 and Logic Pro 7 (for songs/song editing/compositions involving taped things that I’ve created). I haven’t personally had many complaints with these programs yet though, so I’m not much of a help.
How do you like Logic Pro? I have Logic Express but I have not used it yet.
I really like it. You’re really able to create some amazing effects and projects through Logic.
I’m really looking forward to getting Logic Studio. I’ve heard it’s great.
For what it’s worth, I use music publisher on my pc. It’s not the 500lb gorilla of this arena, but for my money, it’s very fast, and ease of use is high. It’s at muspub.com.
It has simple playback, but is essentially a notation-only program.
