Welcome, Darnesha! Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a 21 year old Percussion major at the University of North Florida and am an aspiring composer.

Hey Casey. It’s good to see you’re still around.

Florida? Lucky man! UNF is in Jacksonville right?

I’m in Massachusetts and it’s freezing here. I lived in Miami for 4 years, I did my undergrad at FIU. I really like Massachusetts though, I just don’t like the cold weather that much.

    Do you play drums too?

I bought a drumset about a year ago. I’m a guitarist but I’ve always wanted to learn to play drums. I got a pretty good deal on ebay for a Mapex, but it’s been a year already and I haven’t bought any cymbals.

Yep, I’m still around haha I’ve heard a lot of great things about FIU. I do play drum set, I’ve been playing for about 11 years now. If you ever need any drum help, let me know!

That’s great. What do you play, jazz, rock? Who are your favorite drummers?

well, I’ve played a little bit of everything. Big Band Jazz, small group jazz, rock, heavy metal, you name it. My favorite style of drumming is really anything that is groove-based (funk, r&b, etc…) My favorite drummers are probably more rock based though. I guess I’d have to say some of my favorite drummers are:

    Danny Carey – Tool

Steve Gadd – legendary studio drummer

Carter Beauford – Dave Matthews Band

Dave Weckl – legendary studio drummer/independent

Jack DeJohnette – legendary jazz drummer

What about you, what are some of your favorite styles/favorite drummers?

Well, other than listening to contemporary classical music, I listen to a lot of jazz, and some rock as well. I play jazz guitar myself, although I have not been active for a couple years as a player…

My favorite jazz drummers as of know are Bill Stewart, Jack DeJohnett, and some Vinnie Colaiuta.

For rock, I have to say I’ve always liked Will Calhoun (Living Colour).

No one else comes to mind right now, but I’m sure I’m missing some one.

I agree, Tool is such a great band. I like Radiohead too, and have always been a big Mr. Bungle fan. Oh, I can not leave Frank Zappa out. Great stuff!

I love Radiohead as well. I haven’t checked out the new album yet, have you? I figured you must like Zappa if you like Colaiuta. You know who else is great to check out is Billy Cobham (especially with Mahavishnu Orchestra).
