Dear Anyone.
I have Reason, 1 gig RAM, an AMD Sempron computer which is just fast enough to run Reason properly.
I'm a complete noob, let's get that out of the way for starters. I flatter myself I can write a tune, but the techie side of computer music is killing me and sniggering heartily throughout the process. Anyway. Today's dumbass question.
I wanna write simple New Age music for now - flute'n'strings, piano'n'strings, think Richard Clayderman, people like that. If you listen to a piano and strings piece, the strings are lovely and soft and buzzy in the background. Like saying MMMMM as a chord.
Problem is, doesn't matter which Reason sample I use - I only have the two basic sets, Orkester and Factory, that come with the program - it sounds too harsh. I've tried loading on the reverb, it just sounds like an overdose of reverb, it doesn't sound soft. Not like the online New Age backings sound soft.
How do you get those lovely, soft, New Age backings you hear on piano and synth/strings tracks? What samples should I use and what should I be doing to them to achieve the softness?
Once I've achieved softness I'll prob. have a couple more question to ask, but this soft thing is a real stumbling block for me. Like a six foot brick wall!
